Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest

Covering more than 1.5 million acres, Nicolet National Forest is known for its timber, camping, boating and outdoor recreation opportunities.

Take a scenic drive

You can’t really go wrong when you take a drive through the Northwoods, but if you’re looking for an easy route with guaranteed scenic views, take a spin on Rustic Road 60. This 10-mile route will take you through a state forest, past old logging camps, trails, lakes, and more.

Waterfalls Drive

This drive sure lives up to its name, taking you on a tour of five waterfalls in the Upper Peninsula. If you’re looking to get a different view of the water, head toward the Black River Harbor Suspension Footbridge that was built in the 1930s and spans the opening of Black River and the boat harbor.

Bond Falls & Agate Falls

Head over to Michigan to see some of the best waterfalls in the area. Enjoy an easy walk takes you to the scenic 100-foot-wide Bond waterfall. And just a short drive away, you’ll find the picturesque Agate Falls with an observation tower at the top.

Hunting in Vilas County

Find some of the state’s best hunting for deer, grouse and other game in Eagle River and its surrounding areas.

Cranberry Bogs

Get the party tarted at one of our area cranberry bogs. Visit Lake Nokomis Cranberries for tours from June to October, wine tasting and delicious gifts.

Tamarack Off-highway motorcycle trails

Take your wheels on this 22-mile, single-track trail system. Trails range from beginner to experienced and offer campgrounds, pavilions, and scenery.

Copper Peak & Little Girls Point

Overlook 2,500 square miles, three states and even see Canada from this scenic lookout atop 469-foot artificial ski jump. Then head over to Little Girls Point to skim the shores for beautiful agates.

Porcupine Mountain State Park & Lake of the Clouds

Head over to “the Porkies” to explore 60,000 acres of forest complete with hiking trails, disc golf, waterfalls, and the scenic Lake of the Clouds. It’s a beautiful visit any time of year but the lake takes on particularly beautiful hues in summer and fall.

Burnt Rollaways

Ever seen a boat hoisted from one lake to another? Burnt Rollaways connects the Three Lakes Chain to the Eagle River chain, letting you explore and fish on the world’s largest freshwater chain of lakes.
