ATV/UTV Eagle River

ALL COUNTY HIGHWAYS, EXCEPT IN THE TOWN OF LAC DU FLAMBEAU, ARE OPEN YEAR-ROUND TO ATV/UTV TRAVEL.

At the January 28, 2025, meeting of the Vilas County Board of Supervisors, a resolution was brought forward and was passed to open all of the county highways, except those in the Town of Lac Du Flambeau, to allow year-round travel of ATVs and UTVs. These highways have been properly signed and are now open for travel by ATVs and UTVs.

County highways are lettered roads and include A, B, C, E, G, H (only in the Town of Boulder Junction), J, K, M, N, O, P, S, and W. Roads that are numbered 17, 32, 45, 47, 51, 70, and STH 155 are not open for ATV or UTV travel. A simple way to remember the rule is that lettered roads are legal and numbered roads, with some exceptions, are illegal to travel with an ATV or UTV. The exceptions are, STH 17 in Phelps from CTH E to Deerskin Road, STH 70 in St. Germain from STH 155 to Parkway Drive, STH 155 in St. Germain, from STH 70 to Birchwood Drive, and STH 155 in Plum Lake, from CTH N to Plum Lake Drive. Please note that not all town roads are open, and individuals should check with the local towns or ATV clubs in that area for information.

Please obey all traffic laws when traveling on these county highways; please stay to the right and travel in the direction of traffic. Stay on the paved portion of these roads, ride single-file, and remember that the ATV/UTV speed limit is 35 MPH. For your safety, have your headlights on and after dark, please dim your headlights when traffic approaches from the opposite direction. Do not use your off-road lights when on road routes.
