The Snowmobile Capital of the World®

It’s that time of the year when Eagle River transforms into the Snowmobile Capital of the World®. It won’t be long until a blanket of snow covers the landscape and opens up the exhilarating world of snowmobiling.

With more than 500 miles of area trails that are meticulously cared for by the Sno-Eagles Snowmobile Club and other area snowmobile clubs, there are hours of entertainment waiting. In fact, SnowGoer magazine consistently recognizes the area for its pristine trails and frequently calls it the best snowmobiling vacation destination. Maybe it’s because snowmobilers are welcome to go at their own pace – from making frequent stops to observe wildlife, to really opening it up down a long straightaway.

For those who really want to see a show on snow, look no further than the Amsoil World Championship Snowmobile Derby at the Eagle River Derby Track. Started in 1964, the international event typically attracts hundreds of competitors and tens of thousands of spectators.

While the action will be hot on the track, frozen lakes will become home to another one of Eagle River’s favorite winter pastimes – ice fishing. Every year hundreds of anglers set up their shanties on the World’s Largest Chain of 28 Lakes, drill fishing holes and arrange tip-ups to haul in the catch of the day.

Dollar Lake is once again the site for the Labatt Blue USA Adult Pond Hockey Championships in early February. Thousands of participants signed up to fill out the bracket in record time for the 2017 edition, but spectators can partake in the fun from the sidelines by watching teams from near and far compete on the ice.

For those winter enthusiasts who enjoy snowmobiling, ice fishing, and silent sports like cross-country skiing and snowshoeing, there are plenty of overnight options to choose from in the Eagle River area. And just like snowflakes, every hotel and resort is unique.

Winter is coming. And that’s a good thing up here. Check out EagleRiver.org to plan your winter visit.
