Spring is in the Air

The calendar might say that spring officially starts next week in Wisconsin. Talk to any avid fisherman, however, and you’ll be told it’s the first Saturday in May – Opening Day.

People in Wisconsin take their fishing seriously. Very seriously. In fact, the Eagle River area reels in anglers from all over the country for opening day. And with musky, northern, walleye and bass swimming through the World’s Largest Chain of 28 Connected Lakes, it’s really no surprise. The area’s legendary fishing guides are ready to help you lure in that trophy.

Fishing isn’t the area’s only springtime draw, however. Our lush boreal forests and glacial lakes provide a beautiful setting for various silent sports. Paddling a canoe or kayak is a great way to build upper body fitness and re-acclimate yourself to the outdoors after a long winter. If you’re looking for a lower body workout, we have miles of road and woodland trails for biking and hiking. Forget your bike at home? No worries! We’ve got sports rental shops to keep you rolling.

If wildlife or landscape photography is your thing, we’d be happy to steer you toward some of the area’s most majestic spots, like Bond Falls. Point the lens upward at our star-filled night skies and you’ll be amazed. You may even catch a glimpse of aurora borealis (Northern Lights).

The Eagle River area also can quench the thirst of those craving speed and adventure. The area’s lakes are a great place to go water skiing and tubing. You might even find yourself on a pirate ship. (Please, no plundering on our waters, though.) If land-based activities are more your cup of tea, consider renting an ATV to explore the communities of Eagle River, Conover, Land O’ Lakes, and Phelps by routes and trails. For the thrill of speed from the safety of a bleacher, check out the speedway and watch a race or two on Friday nights.

No matter what your spring pastime is, we’ve probably got it here in Eagle River. We look forward to seeing you in a boat, on a bike or enjoying the scenery in our neck of the woods this spring!
