We’re celebrating one of our favorite drinks this month. Whether you’re at a local supper club, your back deck, or bellied up to the bar, an Eagle River old fashioned is a must-have this time of year. Google says that the drink was invented in Louisville, Kentucky back in 1880. Based on the quality and quantity of the drink in the Eagle River-area, we’re not so sure that the old fashioned didn’t find its humble beginnings here.
Now normally, we’d be prepping for our Old Fashioneds Up North event. Several area bartenders come together on one night to sample their best traditional and unique old fashioned recipes. As we can’t gather this year, we thought we’d make sure you have all the old fashioned goodness you can handle right here.
How-to make an Eagle River old fashioned
For those of you sticking around home, we visited The Craftsman American Tavern in Eagle River to see firsthand how the classic old fashioned is mixed up. Take some notes from Lucy, their bar manager, for when you make one yourself.
Sweet or Sour 16
We know you probably want an old fashioned after that. That’s why we’re doing the Sweet or Sour 16 Old Fashioneds Tournament. Using your nominations of local Eagle River bars & restaurants, the March Madness-style bracket is some friendly competition to decide the fan-favorite old fashioned. Head to our Instagram or Twitter to vote every Friday until we have a winner.
Better yet, you might need to sample for yourself before voting. You can use our dining finder to make your way through the bracket.
Make Some Plans
With an old fashioned on your mind, make plans to head to Eagle River real soon. No matter if you take yours sweet or sour, whiskey or brandy, we’ll be ready to host you. We’ll even point you in the right direction for a place to stay with our lodging finder. See you in our slice of heaven soon!
