Dogs love the outdoors as much as we do, so it’s no surprise to see a pooch or two walking around downtown or jogging on the trails with their owners. But when it comes to planning a trip with your four-legged friends, there are still some things you need to plan for. We’ve got you covered.
First thing’s first, find a place that will let you and your pets sleep easy. Take a look at our pet-friendly lodging options and make sure your pet meets their policies before booking.
Boarding, Day Care & Pet Wash
If you can’t keep your pet with you in your accommodations, or if you’ll be gone for long periods of time consider boarding or dropping them off for doggy day care at Kevin’s Kennels. Otherwise, stop by to get your dog all spruced up at their pet wash after a long day of playing in the Northwoods.
Go for a W-A-L-K
Your dog knows that magic word. Treat them to a walk at Riverview Park or on our scenic trails. Please keep pets leashed. After all, there’s lots of critters for them to chase after and it’s for both their safety and the safety of others.
Take them Out for a Bite
While you won’t be able to take them inside, Eagle River offers a number of pet-friendly patios for you and your pooch to enjoy. Keep them leashed and relax outside at Tribute Brewing Company, McDonald’s, Buckshots Saloon and Eatery and Eagle River Roasters.
Give a Dog a Bone, or a Bowl of Food
When it comes to pet food, we’ve got cans and kibble galore. Even fussy eaters can find their flavor at Tractor Supply Company, Nelson’s Ace Hardware, Trigs, Eagle River Animal Hospital, Dr. John’s Dog and Cat Repair and Pick ‘N Save.
Take Your Pooch Shopping
If your pet is leashed and behaves well, they’re welcome to join you for a shopping trip to Tractor Supply Company, Nelson’s Ace Hardware, Grandma’s Toy Box, Eagle Craft and Hobby, Hawks Nest (for canoeing and kayaking only) and Ripco Credit Union.
Don’t forget that your dog may not be used to this area. Make sure to keep them leashed at all times when outside. Bring trail shoes for them to protect their paws, don’t leave them in the car and check for ticks after being exposed to the outdoors. Plus, please keep our area’s the way you found them by picking up after your pet.
