ATV Season Starts in 3, 2, 1…

May is almost here and that means the start of Eagle River ATV season. While you hurry up and wait, remember that when you are ATVing up here to stop and take a look around to truly appreciate the area. During ATV season, you just get to see more of it!

Sure, it’s fun to rev up and fly down a long straightaway. But when you’re riding some of the 70 miles of ATV/UTV routes in our neck of the woods, it’s important to stop and take in the sights. Pristine lakes appear through openings in the forest. Paved county roads take you to routes further west and east. And there’s almost always a place to grab a bite when you need to refuel for the second half of your ride!

If you’re looking to plan an ATV-related trip to the Eagle River area, take a gander at some fun things we think you’ll want to check out.

Lake Views for Your Instagram

One of the best things about riding an ATV is getting to see the beautiful landscape. When it comes to Up North Wisconsin, it doesn’t get better than those lake views from the shoreline.

When riding just northeast of Eagle River proper, there are some great views looking south from the north bank of Scattering Rice Lake. If you continue the route to the east and south, you can find yourself on the south end of the lake, where there’s a close up view of the little tree island.

South of Eagle River is a little route that takes riders due north off Hwy. 32. Follow the route to the right and be treated to a dual view of Catfish Lake (north) and Meta Lake (south).

Pavement Power to the East and West

Stuck in Eagle River? Well, it’s not a bad place to be. But those who want to explore ATV routes into the western parts of Vilas County can take County Road G as far out as Lost Lake, near Sayner. From there, ATV riders can take connections into St. Germain and other fun wooded routes.

North of Eagle River, County Road K lets ATVers open up toward and around North Twin Lake. This connector gets you into Phelps, where you can either head further east to and then along County Road A or head back south toward Eagle River on heavily wooded Deerskin Road.

Also, did you know that the Vilas County Board recently approved ATV/UTV use on county roads for the entire year? County Roads, A, B, E, and S have joined County Roads K and G for year round access.

Tasty Spots to Tank Up

No trip riding around on the ATV is complete without a pitstop (or two). There are many great options to consider a refuel for your body.

For those ATVers who get out on the routes early and need a hearty brunch to tide them over, consider Leif’s Café right off North Railroad Street in Eagle River. Open early and into late afternoon (and evening on Fridays), Leif’s can serve up your ATV party of one or a dozen with a fresh skillet, tasty basket, or scrumptious sandwich to make sure you’ve got fuel for the second half of your ride.

Is it May, yet?

ATV/UTV routes open in May. While it might seem like a long while from now, it just gives you the proper time to prepare. If you don’t have an ATV or UTV, our friends at Track Side and The Toy Shop can help you out with vehicles, accessories, and route information.
