Down to Discover: UP Waterfalls

We know that when you’re up in the Northwoods, you’re down to explore the natural beauty that’s surrounding you. But if you’re ready to fall even more in love with nature, you’ll need to tour all of the waterfalls that surround Eagle River. Not sure where to start? We’ve got you covered.

If you’re with the whole family and looking for a great one-stop day trip, you’ll want to head up to Bond Falls in Haight Township, MI. There you’ll see the Ontonagon River make a gorgeous 50-foot drop. Around the falls you’ll find hiking, picnic tables, an accessible boardwalk, and many viewing locations. You’ll find plenty to love before you head back to Eagle River.

And if you’re looking to see as many waterfalls as possible, you’ll be able to do just that. Just make sure you’re up for plenty of hiking. From Bond Falls, head north to Agate Falls in Interior Township, MI. There you’ll find a beautiful waterfall making its way over a shelf of terraced sandstone. The falls are visible from an observation platform after a short hike.

Another stop you don’t want to miss out on is O Kun De Kun Falls. You’ll find  it in Stannard Township, MI. On your hike to the falls, be on the lookout for wildlife, as this area is known for few humans and more wild animals. Once there, you’ll be able to get up close and witness an amazing plunging waterfall, surrounded by Midwest flora.

With the area’s many waterfalls, don’t hesitate to keep exploring. Make sure you’re prepared with plenty of water, good walking shoes, and – well, you know what to do. While you’re still in Eagle River, be sure to grab anything you might not have before you head out.
