Packing for a 4th of July Weekend

We want you to be able to enjoy your Fourth of July trip to the fullest, so we’re giving you the insider tips and tricks to packing for the weekend. And, if you happen to forget anything, we’ve got you covered with boutiques, shops and specialty stores that carry what you need. Plus, before you pack, make sure you know what you’ll be doing. Check out some of our favorited festive activities in our Fourth of July itinerary.

Pack the Essentials:

We shouldn’t have to remind you, but don’t forget extra clothes for all sorts of weather – it can still get a bit chilly at night around the campfire. And, we’re pretty casual in these neck of the woods, so unless you’ve got something special planned, you can leave the fancy clothes at home. Plus, toss the rest of these in your bag as well: a swimsuit, towel, toiletries, tennis shoes and sandals, and don’t forget a sense of adventure.

If You’re Here for Family Fun

Bring your best red white and blue attire to wear to all of our holiday happenings. If you’re going to the Party in the Street and Parade it’s always a good idea to carry some hats, water and sunscreen along with you as well as any blankets, picnic baskets or low chairs you may need for the day or nighttime fireworks show. You can get sparklers and small fireworks up here, but leave the pyrotechnics to us.

Setting Up Camp or Staying at a Cabin/Cottage

Load up your car with your tent, bug spray, sleeping bags, lanterns, extra clothing, flashlights, bug spray and whatever other comforts you need when sleeping under the stars. But remember to keep the firewood at home. Buy some from our local gas stations or grocery stores, Trig’s and Pick N’ Save, to prevent spreading invasive insects. You can also pick up some food while you’re there so you don’t need to keep it cool during the drive here. If you forget any of your supplies, you can stop at one of our recreation stores, and if weather doesn’t work out in your favor, check out our favorite things to do  on a rainy day.

Outdoor Adventures

It’s a good idea to be prepared with active shoes, bug spray and your ID in case you need to sign a waiver. Most of our attractions will provide you with the necessary equipment for comfort and safety but consider bringing a water canteen and wear protective clothing depending on what activity you choose.  If you’ve brought your own kayak or boat, make sure you’ve got lifejackets onboard.

A Day on the Water

It’s pretty easy to lose track of time when you’re on the World’s Largest Chain of 28 Connected Lakes, so please make sure your boat is stocked with enough water and sunscreen for everyone on board. Bring floaties, hats, towels, a waterproof phone case, waterproof speaker and snacks. You’re required to have life jackets on your boat. We also have boat-up bars and restaurants so it’s a good idea to have some money and an ID with you too.
